ESPresso Lite at the Science Cafe: IoT Workshop with ESPresso Lite

Are you working on or thinking of an Internet-of-Things (IoT) project? Are you an aspiring start-up entrepreneur exploring IoT hardware, solutions and services? Or a software developer wanting to tinker with a new hardware project?

If so, you might like to come to a gathering of people with like-minded interests in the latest IoT craze in town- the ESP8266 and the latest ESPert's ESPresso Lite development board. The ESPresso Lite is an Arduino-compatible, WiFi-enabled development board that allows anyone to develop IoT solutions and services quickly and easily.

Team ESPert will be in town to conduct an introductory workshop for the first time in Penang on Saturday afternoon, 12 December 2pm-5pm at the newly-opened Penang Science Cafe@Heritage (Wisma Yeap Chor Ee).

  • 2.00pm : Introduction to ESPert's ESPresso Lite
  • 2.15pm : 7 important things to know about IoT
      • Hardware - Cloud - Mobile App relationship
      • Hardware programming: Arduino
      • Messaging Protocol: MQTT
      • Visualization tool: e.g. Freeboard
      • Logic & wiring tool: Node-Red
      • Cloud programming: Espert.io
  • 3.00pm : Building your first IoT project
      • 'Amazon Dash'-like button to push notification to your smartphone
  • 4.30pm : Demo use cases and Q&A
  • 5.00pm : End of Workshop

Workshop comes with a set of ESPresso Lite unit which the participants can bring home after that. Participants will need to bring their own laptops with Arduino IDE 1.6.5 (or later) installed.
